In collaboration with Meyers and Associates, Inc, Amigos designed the passive recreation component of a proposed multi-user sports field. Based on Amigos' research, an innovative storm water filtration and water reuse system that will enhance field usability, reduce consumption and maintenance costs will be incorporated into the sports field design . An outdoor classroom will allow the two schools and the community to interpret and enjoy the native habitat designed to represent local ecosystems in a living educational display. Shade and native landscaping in the parking lot will improve the hard concrete environment while reducing the heat.
Amigos engaged local residents, teachers and students from the two schools, professionals working with the numerous orthopedically challenged children at Thompson school, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Teachers helped us design the educational native habitat area in such a manner as to complement State of California curricula in science, art, and history. Local residents were most pleased by the meandering trails, picnic areas, and neighborhood park they would soon have. Handicapped students and professionals working with them helped us incorporate amenities as well as features that would be stimulating to those children.
